A referral for therapy is made through your child’s physician. Upon receipt of the referral, we will schedule the initial evaluation. NOTE! When your child is evaluated, the therapist will make a recommendation for the frequency and length of the treatment plan of care based on the specific needs of your child. Typically, children receive therapy 1 to 2 times per week. As children progress, the therapist may ease them out of therapy by decreasing the frequency to every other week or once a month to ensure that they maintain skills. Attendance and participation in therapy, along with adherence to home programs, are crucial for your child's progress and success. While we understand illness and emergencies may arise, we kindly request that you minimize cancellations and no-shows and adhere to the following attendance policy: - A fee of $25 will be assessed for cancelation (within 24 hours) or No Show and will be collected at the next appointment in the form of cash, debit/credit card, or check for all commercial insurance policyholders. Additionally, if you arrive late for a scheduled appointment, the session will still end at the scheduled time or may be canceled. - If you fail to appear for an appointment (no show) without providing the appropriate advance notification for 3 or more appointments within the certification period, the office will reserve the right to cancel all pending appointments and to no longer offer services to you as a client. Please note : All cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment First meetings with a therapist from Southshore Bilingual Therapy Inc., you can expect a thorough and careful evaluation of your child that is tailored to the concerns that prompted the referral. Each evaluation will utilize objective and standardized testing measures. Most evaluations are completed in 1 hour. Part of that time will be spent assessing your child and the rest will be utilized to speak with the parent/guardian present to collect additional information needed in addition to formal measures. We will also use the time to explain the results of the evaluation, provide any additional information, and answer any questions. Please note, that evaluations will vary from child to child (depending on age, capabilities, and/or physical/mental development). We strive to conduct each evaluation to minimize stress for the child and hope that it becomes a positive experience that the child enjoys. For this to succeed, your child might need information about the evaluation ahead of time. We recommend a few things for this process to be easier: Telling your child that we will be playing games with them For older children tell them we want to see how they use their eyes, hands, and muscles. Reassure your child that this is meant to be a fun experience for them.

(The American Journal of Occupational Therapy, agosto de 2020, Vol. 74, Supl.
